Glenbawn Pro Bass Round 4
|
Phil Loas and I fished our first ever Bass Comp last weekend as Team Secret Creek. We started well with both of us weighing our 2 fish in the first session putting us in about 8th position. Unfortunately we cooked our electric motor nearing the end of the first session and found it tough going in the second session with the wind more or less taking us where ever it wanted and our drifts were some what erratic. Phil still managed a couple of smaller fish but also managed to lose a Strudwick rod over the side in the process. We were dead set way out of luck but still had a great time (in a weird sort of way). Losing the rod and reel was the last straw and we found ourselves having to consume copious amounts of alcohol to try and deal with our ordeal. The third session was a non-event for us, we fished for about an hour and had to leave as I was due back in Newcastle for a function at midday. Despite our misery the other competitors caught plenty of fish with most coming on spinnerbaits and a great percentage of those caught on Secret Creek Spinnerbaits. I must congratulate Chris Craig and his boys on running a very enjoyable comp and I am sure that a Secret Creek Team will become a regular entrant into these events. I would like to also thank the other competitors who we came in contact with for their hospitality and friendly nature in accepting us into their competition. I will hopefully be able to give you some final results in the coming days. |

July Bass Fishing, Lake St.Clair
|
Had a great day today bass fishing Lake St. Clair with Dave McLean from Fishing Monthly Magazine. Fishing was slow at best and we only got 4 very lethargic fish for the days effort. Water temp was anywhere between 12 and 14 degrees so you can see why they were a bit sluggish. We worked very hard for our fish and I learn't a great deal fishing with Dave. He showed me a couple of techniques that were new to me and turned out to make the difference between a fishless day and our grand total of 4 fish. Dave was not only champion angler of the day but also chief photographer so please excuse me for turning up in the following examples of some of our catch. Things should steadily start to get better from early August. August was a great month for us spinnerbaiting Lake St.Clair last year. |

Strudwick Fishing Rods
|
Check out Strudwicks new Sic Stik Pro range of fishing rods. Ben and I have been using Struddys for a year or two now and find them to be absolutely top notch. Gunn Hunter Valley fisherman, Chris "Didge" Ingle, has been involved with Strudwick for quite a while and I have seen him pull some terrific fish using their gear. Just for Didge to be using Strudwick rods says alot about the quality and performance of these great Australian creations.(He also uses Secret Creek Spinnerbaits and swears by them) The Sic Stik range is at the more affordable end of the Strudwick range and is as much rod as I will ever need but pick up one of the new Sic Stik Pro rods and I think I know which one you will buy. I honestly don't know whether any similar products come close to the value for money you will get from this range of quality fishing rods. So if you are in the market for a new rod to cast your lures I think you would be mad not to at least consider the Strudwick option.
Many Regards,
Mick Butcher |
